Friends, on November 5 I'm bringing The $20 Dolla Holla with Kosine & Friends home to Chicago, and I'd love for you to be part of it.
Join me at Bassment, 353 W. Hubbard Street, from 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. I'm bringing my saxophone, a live band, and the records we've celebrated together. Whether you're coming after the Soul Train Awards or making this your night out, come spend the evening with us.
I'm also inviting you to support the work that helped make this night possible.
The classroom gave me the career
My mother believed deeply in education. She passed away after my sophomore year of college, and finishing my degree became a commitment I carried in her honor.
I graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a 4.0 GPA. That fall, at 23, I returned to the same school as a college professor and instructor. That classroom helped open the door to my career.
While moderating a music industry panel at Columbia, I met Cory Llewellyn, CL, who was working with Mims. That connection led to co-executive producing Mims' album Guilt and producing its lead single, "Move (If You Wanna)." The commitment I made to my mother had put me in that room.
My work eventually took me to Hawaii with Kanye West on a John Legend project. Years later, I stood alongside Kanye again at an early Sunday Service gathering, playing saxophone with my friend Phil on piano. The instrument I grew up playing in church in Maywood was still opening new doors.
In 2025, nineteen years after graduating, I returned to Columbia to receive an honorary Doctor of Arts degree and deliver a commencement address. Through those years, as I became a Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum producer working with artists including Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Tank, and Kelly Rowland, I kept teaching. The classroom gave me the career, and the career is what I bring back to the classroom.
Sir Michael Rocks was attending my Columbia class while beginning The Cool Kids. Our relationship continued beyond campus, into my mother's basement in Broadview, where we collaborated, made music, and developed a mentorship. We even released "Colors," featuring Q Billah. Now, 20 years later, we celebrate the power of mentorship.
He will be in the building November 5. My first student in my first class, back in the room with me at The $20 Dolla Holla.
What the free Tuesday class is
Today, through Internz Academy, I teach free Zoom classes every Tuesday to aspiring producers, artists, and music professionals across the country. We work on the craft, the business, and how to prepare for professional opportunities. I want to keep that classroom free, and keep growing what we can offer.
Your support helps sustain the teaching time, preparation, and mentorship that make it possible. It also helps me remain active professionally, bringing current experience and relationships back to our students. Sit in on one.

Sections, tables, and questions
My mother's investment in my education is still reaching people she never had the chance to meet. Helping someone else move forward is one of the ways I carry her with me. Thank you for helping me continue that work.
